Royal Project Development Center, Mae Wang District, Chiang

The Center is at 980 meters above sea level and covers 102.08
square kilometers or 63,803 rai. The average temperature is 17 Celsius.
The valley is suitable for rice farming and the slopes are appropriate
for fruit and fi eld crops. The locals are Karen and Hmong hill-tribe
people.

Tradition and Culture
- Karen New Years Celebration around December and January
- after all the crops have been harvested, the Karen conducts
a New Year ceremony. The celebration signifi ed the beginning
of new life marked by the villagers forgiving each other and forgetting
about the bad things that may have occurred over the past year.
They ask the Supreme Being for permission to practice rotation
farming in the coming year.
- Hmong New Year Festival around December and January in
the New Year day, Hmong will have variety entertainment such as
a basket dancing, top spin, and many shows on the stage
- Rice Harvest Ritual is performed around November - this ritual
is performed to obtain the blessing of the Supreme Being for a
good rice crop that year; for the family with having rice to last
all the year round
Trekking Sites
- Huai Kra Sae Waterfall with a number of plants and Khasiya conifers,
about 5 kilometers from the Center
- Pong Smith Waterfall with plenty of water in the rainy season.
It is 4 kilometers from the Center.
- Hua Yen Waterfall plenty of water all year at Ban Hua
