Royal Project Development Center, Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province

The Center has a total area of 76.91 square kilometers or 48,068.54 rai and is at 1,000 to 1,500 meters above sea level. The average temperature is about 20 Celsius. It is located in a mountain range with valleys and the Yod and Pang Kia waterways.

Visitors are welcome to join :

Activities

  • visit tomato and carrot growing plots about 5 kilometers from the Center
  • visit lychee orchards bearing fruit around January to March
  • see Hmong hill-tribe demonstration plots growing Arabica coffee approximately 5 kilometers from the Center
  • visit herb gardens and bamboo plots about 5 kilometers from the Center

Tradition and Culture

  • Hmong New Year Festival is around 3 to 5 January - Hmong will have variety entertainment such as a basket dancing, top spin, and many shows on the stage
  • Karen New Year Festival is held in February - the celebration signifi ed the beginning of new life marked by the villagers forgiving each other and forgetting about the bad things that may have occurred over the past year
  • New rice eating tradition of Karen is in August – see dancing, offer food to the monks, and participate in a ceremony to thank the ghosts who protect the village

Trekking Sites

  • trek to rhododendron gardens 10 to 15 kilometers from the Center - where you can see the beauty of Rhododendron whose fl owers will be in full bloom only from December to February
  • watch local and foreign birds in April, 18 to 20 kilometers from the Center
