Royal Project Development Center, Mae Wang District, Chiang

The Center is situated at 500 meters above sea level on 33.26
square kilometers or 20,789.31 rai in Ban Mae Sa Pok, Mae Win, Mae
Wang District of Chiang Mai Province. The area is hilly and the
weather is quite cool, with an average temperature of 21 Celsius.
The habitants are city people and Karen.

Activities
- visit fl ower and cold-climate vegetable plots within the Center
- see orchards and try fresh passion-fruit just picked from the
plant
Tradition and Culture
- Karen New Year Festival in January to February all different
kinds of desserts, such as sweet boiled sticky rice, sweet sticky
rice in bamboo, and rice mixed with sweets and fats are used in
a ceremony to pay homage and respect to the spirits. Happiness
and goodness is bestowed on every home in the village
- Rice Harvest Ritual the ritual is performed around November
to December before the threshing of the rice. The Supreme Being
is asked to bless the family with suffi cient rice to last all
the year.
Trekking Sites
- Mae Sa Pok Waterfall is a small waterfall with plenty
of water all year, about 200 meters from the Mae Sa Pok Royal
Project Center.
- Pha Mon Waterfall is a large triple-tiered waterfall,
about 30 meters in height and 25 meters wide. There is a lot of
water all year. From the Center, the waterfall is 5 kilometers
by car and then you need to walk about a kilometer.
- Mae Wang Waterfall 20 meters high and 10 meters wide
with water all year. It is the original water source of Wang River.
There are many dry dipterocarp forest, mixed deciduous, mixed
dry dipterocarp, and hill evergreen forests in the area. There
is a basin below the waterfall for swimming and relaxing. The
visitors journey by car about 4 kilometers and then go on foot
about 200 meters.
