Golf in Northern Region of Thailand

back to top1. Chiang Mai Green Valley Country Club

Golf in Northern Region of Thailand, Golf Club, Golf Course and Club HousesThirty minutes from Chiang Mai towards the Ping River lies the 18-hole Chiangmai Green Valley Country Club. Players should be prepared to spend some time on this exacting course as water comes into play on almost every hole, most holes are heavily bunkered and the course is one of the longest in the region. By the time you get to the 18th, the resplendent clubhouse that rises up to greet you is a welcome sight due to the length of the fairways and lack of shade. A hotel is also situated nearby.

back to top3. Lanna Golf Course

Providing stunning views of Chiang Mai’s hills and the Doi Suthep temple, the tough 27-hole Lanna Golf Club is a must for the keen golfer. Situated only 15 minutes drive away from Chiang Mai, the 27-hole courses’ fairways are lined with trees which offer the golfer welcome shade, while its greens are very well looked after and offer fantastic play all year round. Although opened as an 18-hole in 1975, nine more holes were added later on what used to be the club’s horse riding track. back to top5. Santiburi Country Club

Roughly 15 minutes from Chiang Rai, the 18-hole Santiburi Country Club, Chiang Rai spills out over the fields and low hills of Wiang Chai District. The course designer, Robert Trent Jones Jr, has gone through a great deal of effort to create a water-friendly course with plenty of bunkers, sloping lies and good dog-leg holes. None is more difficult than the course’s par-5 18th where not only do players have to negotiate around a water hazard on the left side of the green from the tee shot, but also on the right of the green on the approach shot.

back to top6. The Royal Chiang Mai Golf Club

Designed by five-time British Open champion Peter Thompson, the course is set in a beautiful valley and the scenery is magnificent. Waterfalls, trails, streams and all kind of trees are surrounded by mountains. Strategic positioning of fairways and greenside bunkers calls for accurate play, rather than long hitting. However, on some holes distances to greens are deceptive and there is a tendency to underclub. There is not a poor hole in the Golf Course. At the finish of the round there is a beautiful view towards the clubhouse. The resort also has a 55-room hotel with sauna and a snooker room.

back to top7. Waterford Valley Chiang Rai

The 18-hole Waterford Valley Golf Course lies approximately 40 minutes from the city of Chiang Rai in one of Thailand’s most attractive and in the winter – coolest areas. The beautiful mountains of the North provide a pleasant distraction to a day on the fairways, which themselves are a sight for sore eyes – surrounded by trees, shrubs and bushes. Numerous hazards adorn the surroundings and the course is fringed by
pleasant housing projects that fail to impose on the beautiful surroundings. The resort runs a 20-room lodge as well as a 30-room condominiumstyle accommodation with room rates ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 baht.
