15 minutes from Chiang Rai, the
18-hole Santiburi Country Club, Chiang
Rai spills out over the fields and low hills of Wiang Chai District.
The course designer, Robert Trent Jones Jr, has gone through a great
deal of effort to create a water-friendly course with plenty of
bunkers, sloping lies and good dog-leg holes. None is more difficult
than the course’s par-5 18th where not only do players have
to negotiate around a water hazard on the left side of the green
from the tee shot, but also on the right of the green on the approach
shot.

set in a beautiful valley and the scenery is magnificent. Waterfalls,
trails, streams and all kind of trees are surrounded by mountains.
Strategic positioning of fairways and greenside bunkers calls for
accurate play, rather than long hitting. However, on some holes
distances to greens are deceptive and there is a tendency to underclub.
